When the Florida Gators season kicked off on December 2nd, it was looking great. Three games passed, and the Gators led by Keyontae Johnson were already 3-0. The next game on the schedule was going to be a tough one. The Gators would play the Florida State Seminoles who were also undefeated. The unthinkable happened in the highly anticipated game.
After a great start to the first half, star guard Keyontae Johnson collapsed on the court, leaving viewers in shock. Johnson, who was unresponsive, was then taken to the hospital and began to breathe on his own. The event took social media and the country by storm, resulting in fan reactions and people’s thoughts and prayers being sent out for Johnson.
In the summer, Johnson was diagnosed with Covid-19, and many were thinking if that had anything to do with the collapsing. A few days later, Johnson was placed in a medically induced coma. After some time, Johnson had woken up and began to speak shortly after. He was then diagnosed to have a heart condition known as acute myocarditis. Keyontae began to make progress and doing things on his own.
Just a few days ago, Johnson rejoined the team. Despite the doubt of being able to play again this season, Johnson has committed to helping his team by coaching and being a help to his fellow players.
After a huge scare and disappointing news, it is extremely inspirational and amazing what Johnson has done. Whether it was being diagnosed with Covid-19 in the summer, being in a medically induced coma, or finding out to have a heart condition, Johnson continues to fight and be a help to the Florida Gators basketball team.
