NFL Draft trades are one of the most thrilling types of trades in all of the sports, there are many twists and turns and unexpected things happening. This year will include possible player-for-pick(s) trades and will be another stressful draft for teams needing to get it right.
The trade market already got off to a hot start with Jared Goff, two future firsts, and a third-round pick was shipped to Detroit for Matthew Stafford. A blockbuster to start out this new year.
Here are some trades I think could go down in the 2021 NFL Draft:
Deshaun Watson heads to the Washington Football team for Landon Collins, Daron Payne, 19th overall pick, and a 2022 first-round pick
A big one. It was rumored that the Texans were looking for two young defensive players in return for Deshaun Watson. They also have been looking for draft capital. That’s what they get with Washington, whilst Washington’s open a window to compete. A win-win. Watson gets his way out of Houston and hopefully competes for a championship in Washington.
The Panthers move up to third overall with the Dolphins and give up the eighth overall pick, second-round pick, fifth-round pick, and a future second-rounder
The Panthers are in the market for a QB with Teddy Bridgewater not being the long-term option in Carolina. So they trade up and either snag BYU’s Zach Wilson or Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Dolphins just keep adding to their draft capital and continue to help out Tua Tagovailoa. Dolphins could still land one of the top wide receivers with the 8th pick so in all really isn’t that bad of a haul.
Carson Wentz gets shipped to Indianapolis for the 21st overall pick and a 2022-3rd.
Indianapolis gets their QB1 and tries to compete with the Chiefs in the AFC. The Eagles decided to move forward with Jalen Hurts at the helm. Newly hired HC Nick Sirianni also gets another pick this year to work with and help build his roster.
Ezekiel Elliott unexpectedly gets dealt to the Jets for the 22nd overall selection and a future 4th.
The Cowboys are going into cap hell soon and Ezekiel Elliott has been disappointing as of late. The Jets are on the come up and an RB like Elliott would give the offense a weapon to pair with Zach Wilson, or Sam Darnold if they keep him. The Cowboys have Tony Pollard who has been impressive and could fill in for Elliot.
Raiders acquire DB Stephon Gilmore for the 17th overall pick and CB Trayvon Mullen
Stephon Gilmore was rumored to be in trade talks at the midseason trade deadline and the Patriots might look to do a roster-reset with a not-so-bright future. The Raiders add a star to the defense and hopefully changes the tide in Las Vegas.
