As of Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins have reached an agreement with kicker Jason Sanders for a five-year, $22M extension, $10M of that being guaranteed. Sanders was a seventh-round pick back in 2018 and will now be under contract through the 2026 season.
Jason Sanders delivered more than most during the season making the second-most field goals and made 100% of his extra points. Sanders made the First Team All-Pro this last season and was on the PFWA All rookie team in 2018.
Sanders has found his groove after finding the middle of the goalposts on 87% of his attempts. Most teams are struggling to find reliable kickers to win them games and the Dolphins have theirs on lock for many years to come.
The Miami Dolphins ended the season 10-6 and just missed the playoffs but with an upcoming bright future. Sanders will be kicking for one of the better teams throughout the remainder of his contract.
And as for many other teams still looking for kickers, teams will try to replicate most of Sanders’s traits and instill them into their own draftees or FA. Sanders is a great look at what a kicker in the NFL should bring to the table.
