The Tampa Buccaneers have re-signed linebacker Lavonte David to a two-year $25 million with $20 million being guaranteed.

David is one of the best linebackers in football. In 2020 he had a stellar season for the eventual super bowl champions playing all sixteen games with 82 solo tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 1.5 sacks, six passes defended, and 117 combined tackles. Tampa manages to bring back a key piece during their Super Bowl run in 2020.

David has always been one of the best linebackers in football even before 2020. Since his rookie year in 2012, he has only had three seasons where he has not played all sixteen games, was a pro bowler in 2015, and an all-pro in 2013.

The Bucs needed to bring back the captain of their defense. The Bucs’ defense ranked number six in all of football last year. With David now returning, Tampa doesn’t have to worry about their best defensive player leaving anytime soon.

Lavonte David is welcomed back in Tampa alongside teammate Chris Godwin who was franchise tagged earlier today. It is going to be interesting if the Bucs can re-sign defensive stud, Shaquil Barrett. With Tampa’s cap situation, it’s hard seeing they bring back Barrett on a long-term deal.
